We chose the Wednesday of National Library Week to study a day in the life of YDL.
Country in the City - 2010

The kids spent a few hours downtown having old-fashioned fun riding ponies, petting farm animals, getting their face painted, dipping beeswax candles, cutting apple spirals, creating Indian corn jewelry, churning butter and more! All activities were free. This event was generously funded by the Friends of the Ypsilanti District Library.
Ypsilanti Songwriting Festival 2010

The Fourth Annual Ypsilanti Songwriting Festival featured nationally-known songwriters Graham Parker and Paul Burch, along with a local songwriter's showcase, one-on-one sessions with songwriters, the Songwriter's Stopwatch Challenge, and more!
Snoopy as the WWI Flying Ace

From February 3-March 10, 2011, YDL-Whittaker hosted the Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace exhibit, courtesy of ExhibitsUSA and The National Endowment for the Arts. The exhibit offered 40 prints of Snoopy's boldest adventures in his transformed doghouse-now a Sopwith Camel. An opening reception was held on February 8.

Bushels of Laughs with Clowns

We celebrated National Clown Week with an afternoon of informal face painting and balloon sculpture, followed by a high-energy variety show by Clowns Around Redford!
YDL-Whittaker 10th Birthday

YDL-Whittaker opened its doors to the community on January 27, 2002. We celebrated the building's 10th birthday by sharing memories, looking at photos, and eating cake.
Fun with Peeps 2012

Making Peeps sushi, Peeps dioramas, and Peeps candy necklaces at Whittaker and Superior.
Congratulations to the winners of the first-ever Peeps-O-Rama at Whittaker! First place was a tie between "Star Wars - Peeps War" by Gabriel Candelaria and "Just Another Day at Peeps Middle School" by Bryon Pee. Second place was "The Choir" by Angel Wilson. Third place was "The Hunger Games" by Callah Pee.
