Art@YDL
The Ypsilanti District Library offers “more than just books” for the surrounding community. YDL’s permanent art collection provides an opportunity to enrich Ypsilanti residents’ library experience by the presence of beautiful art by local artists.
Following a successful Building Enhancement Fund campaign, the library initiated a public art collection. An art committee examined many pieces of art created by local artists or artists with strong ties to the Ypsilanti community. Works were selected based on their artistic quality, variety of art media, and their suitability for the library’s physical space.
The following offers a virtual tour of the art works selected to permanently grace the walls of YDL-Whittaker Road.
The Compass Fabric Collage, the first art installed in the building. Artist Patsy Hartz of Oxford, Michigan created this piece which illustrates our building’s theme of “New Directions” via an ancient mariner’s compass. It continues to elicit compliments from all who enter YDL.
