Summer Reading at the Ypsilanti District Library

Summer reading 2009 has ended - read below for an idea of what you missed, and check back with us in Spring of 2010 for the next round of summer reading fun!

OUR 2009 SUMMER READING PROGRAM explores modes of transportation and pays homage to Michigan’s rich automotive history as a foundation for a fun-filled summer of activities from June 1 to August 22. There are separate themes for children age 12 and under, teens, and adults, each with their own set of rewards.

Wheel of Reading (AGES 12–UNDER) - Young readers will explore the Wheel of Reading in our fun story-times and programs that include free crafts, games, science experiments, theater, movies, music and dance. The reading goal is to spend 900 minutes (that’s 15 hours) in reading activities throughout the summer.

Read whatever your heart desires: books, magazines, newspapers, websites—even cereal boxes. Everything counts, including
audiobooks and listening to and reading aloud to someone else! Collect a small prize when you reach the 450-minute mark. When you reach 900 minutes, you’ll get to choose a brand-new paperback book of your own to keep.

Transport Yourself! (TEENS) - Teens (ages 12–18) are challenged to Transport Yourself! Complete 5 tasks to make a BINGO across, down, or diagonally on your game card to win a free book and enter your name in a drawing for a gift certificate and other cool prizes! You must turn in your BINGO card at any Ypsilanti District Library location by 5 pm on August 22 to be entered in the drawing.

Minds in Motion (ADULTS) - Adults will have their Minds in Motion during the summer. Adults who finish eight books (either print or audio books) and turn in their reading logs by 5 pm on Saturday, August 22 will be entered in a drawing for additional prizes. Sign up in person at any YDL location beginning June 1. To log your reading titles or write a review click here.
