WHAT IS AN ELECTION?
Imagine that of the 20 stuffed animals you have, one of them has the responsibility to help them work together and create rules to keep everyone happy and safe. This is the leader of all the stuffed animals! But one person doesn’t get to lead forever. When it’s the leader’s turn to pass the power to another stuffed animal, 4 stuffed animals want the job. That means all of the stuffed animals must decide together who the next leader will be. To decide, all 20 of them must put it to a vote. After all 20 stuffed animals vote, we will count the votes to see which one of them gets the most votes. And that’s an election!
WHY SHOULD WE VOTE?
An important part of the United States government is the right of every person over the age of 18 to vote. Voting is not only a right, but a privilege and a responsibility. When our government was first formed only white men over the age of 21 were allowed to vote. This was changed over the years to include everyone regardless of race or gender. Today anyone who is a citizen and is over the age of 18 can vote.
It’s important that each person vote and get their voice to be heard. Even though it may seem to not make a difference as your vote is one in millions, it’s important that each citizen cast their vote. This is important for democracy and for our country that people get to have their say and place their votes.
WHY DO WE HAVE POLITICAL PARTIES?
The two main parties in the United States are the Republican and Democratic Parties. They seem to be fighting and arguing a lot over issues. This may seem like a bad thing, but is really a good thing. Having different parties allows for different sides of issues to get discussed and voted on. If we only had a single party, then the party leaders would decide everything.
2020 CANDIDATES
In the 2020 election, we mostly hear about the democratic candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and the republican candidates, Donald Trump and Mike Pence. But there are two other parties who have nominees on the ballot in most states. Howie Hawkins and Angela Nicole Walker are the candidates for the Green Party and Jo Jorgensen and Spike Cohen are the candidates for the Libertarian Party.

AND THE WINNERS WERE…
The polls closed November 3. It was a close call between the Black Panther/Wonder Woman duo and Frog and Toad, but the winners were Black Panther and Wonder Woman!
