national library week

Sunday, April 4—Saturday, April 10

It’s National Library Week—a celebration of the librarians, library workers, and patrons that make libraries a valuable resource for the whole country.

Sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA), National Library Week aims to promote library use and support.

There’s a lot happening this year under the theme, “Welcome to Your Library.”  We love that the theme lets you know that patrons are always welcome at the library, whether virtually or in-person.

Get access to our digital resources, join us for Superior’s Groundbreaking event, and more. Stay tuned for social media updates on what’s happening this week and see below for a breakdown of the week!

Monday, April 5: State of the Library

Read ALA’s State of America’s Libraries Report, including Top Ten Frequently Challenged Books of 2020.

Also, check out YDL’s annual report on highlights from 2019. The annual report for 2020 will be coming soon.

Tuesday, April 6: National Library Workers Day

Celebrate the valuable contributions of your local library workers! We love to hear from you, so send us a message of thanks or share the love on social media.

Also, we encourage you to nominate a YDL employee as a stellar library worker!

Wednesday, April 7: National Library Outreach Day

It’s time to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting our patrons where you are.

Over the course of the pandemic, we’ve been reaching out to you through our frequent newsletter issues, COVID page, and staff phone calls. In 2020, YDL staffers called over 3,000 members of our senior community!

We also implemented curbside pickup, and resumed our homebound service for seniors.

We’re excited to get the bookmobile back on the road as soon as possible, so be on the lookout for upcoming service dates.
