Safely Talk About Race & Racism: Screening “Unnatural Causes: Is inequality making us sick?”

Sunday, February 21 | 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Moderator La’Ron Williams screens a documentary film virtually and leads an open, honest discussion about race and racism. This month’s offering will be excerpts from the four-part PBS TV series Unnatural Causes: Is inequality making us sick? While Unnatural Causes was produced in 2008, Covid-19 has unfortunately shined a spotlight on how nothing has changed in the past 12 years. This film goes beyond popular conceptions linking health to medical care, lifestyles and genes to explore evidence of other more powerful determinants: the social conditions in which we are born, live and work. Conceived as part of a larger impact campaign in association with leading public health, policy and community-based organizations, the series is a production of California Newsreel with Vital Pictures, Inc.
