Teen & Adult Book Discussion: Octavia E. Butler’s Kindred: a graphic novel adaptation
Wednesday, June 30 | 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Adapted by celebrated academics and comics artists Damian Duffy and John Jennings, this graphic novel powerfully renders Butler’s mysterious and moving story, which spans racial and gender divides in the antebellum South through the 20th century. Butler’s most celebrated, critically acclaimed work tells the story of Dana, a young black woman who is suddenly and inexplicably transported from her home in 1970s California to the pre-Civil War South. This program aims to connect teen voices in the discussion on social justice in our world at a time when it matters most for all people to come together to fight against racial oppression. Copies of the book are available to pick up curbside. Ages 13+. We’ll meet outside at Whittaker, masks and social distancing required. If weather or COVID rates do not permit, or if you prefer to participate virtually, please see the Zoom link information below. For questions, contact Kelly at email@example.com or Sheila at firstname.lastname@example.org.
