YDL has long held the belief that in addition to enhancing our public spaces, art can be a teacher, a mirror, and an inspiration. Now that our new Superior branch library is complete, we seek vibrant art that fits the space, depicts our community and its culture, and tells its stories. All are welcome, but BIPOC artists are especially encouraged to apply.

The current selection cycle will result in the purchase of at least three pieces for the permanent collection at YDL-Superior. There will be an additional selection cycle in 2025.

Artists can submit a finished piece for consideration. Community members may also nominate artists. Community-nominated artists will be contacted by a committee member with an  invitation to submit their work.

  • Vibrant pieces with bright colors and energetic story telling. Preference for art focused on learning, discovery and nature.
  • Invites community conversation and commentary with content appropriate for all ages. The Library will hold art workshops and an opening reception inviting our community to learn more about selected art pieces.
  • A focus on cultural storytelling, showcasing diverse lives through the lens of artists that represent our community’s local  cultures and groups
    •

Works must be presentation-ready and structurally sound.

Selection process
