The Friends of the Ypsilanti District Library accept donations of used books, CDs, and DVDs, which are sold at the Friends Book Shop. They also hold a special weekend used book sale three times a year. All proceeds from book sales support the programs and services you love at the library!

Friends Book Shop

The Friends have a fully-stocked shop at YDL-Whittaker that is open 7 days a week. A used book cart inside YDL-Michigan is also available whenever the library is open.

Book Sales

Book sales occur in January, May, and September of each year, with occasional “pop up sales” to coincide with major library events. Shoppers will find an array of like-new books on a wealth of subjects, along with special library-themed items, such as bookmarks and postcards.

2024 Book Sale Dates

  • Thursday, January 18 through Sunday, January 21 at Whittaker Road
  • Saturday, March 16, Pop-up Book Sale from 11am-5pm
  • Thursday, May 16 through Sunday, May 19 at Whittaker Road

Weekend book sale hours

  • Thursday from 6pm – 8pm
    members only preview sale (memberships available for purchase at the door)
  • Friday from 11 am – 5 pm
  • Saturday from 11 am – 3 pm
  • Sunday from 1 pm – 4 pm

Weekend book sale prices

Hardcovers: $1.00
Paperbacks: 25¢
Oversize paperbacks: 50¢

On Sunday, buyers may purchase a bag full of books for $5 and special books are reduced in price.
