On March 22, the Library’s Board of Trustees officially adopted a 2023–25 strategic plan, along with new mission and vision statements for YDL. The new plan focuses on four strategic areas: dynamic resources; optimized facilities; advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion; and an engaged community. You can expect to see projects that focus on improving our collections, reaching underserved communities, combating misinformation, and improving library spaces.
Produced with extensive staff and stakeholder engagement, the plan lays out strategies to evaluate and continuously improve our program offerings, review and update facilities, explore new funding streams, streamline internal processes, foster a talented and diverse staff, and better communicate our services to the community.
This plan had a largely internal focus, including capital and maintenance plans for library buildings, an aggressive technology plan, and a fund development plan.
Accomplishments that resulted from this plan include creating a library website, expanding service hours, opening a coffee shop at YDL-Whittaker, installing lockers to pick up library materials after hours, and establishing an interim library location in Superior Township.
