Ladies Library

In 1868 a group of enterprising women established what we now call the Ypsilanti District Library. Located in a room in the Arcade Block on Huron Street, it originally had 160 registered borrowers, a collection of 175 books, and a budget of $260.

150 years later, much has changed! What can you do in today’s library?  Experience a museum-quality exhibit. Discuss racial justice issues. Learn to navigate your smartphone. Research your family tree. Watch your child program a robot. Enjoy live music. Take a practice exam online. The possibilities are endless!

To celebrate our 150th anniversary, resolve to explore all the library has to offer in 2018. With over 350,000 items to choose from, including streaming audio and video, digital magazines, graphic novels, and the latest best sellers, 45,000 cardholders can’t be wrong.

Visit today to understand why public libraries remain so vibrant and vital. YDL is the information hub of our community, 150 years young!
