The Guitar Club for Adults gives library patrons the opportunity to improve their musical ability, grow more self-confident playing guitar, and to be creative. It’s also a lot of fun, too, according to Jesse Morgan. Jesse, a YDL employee, has been leading the club since the beginning of 2017. Other YDL staff who have been “instrumental” in support of the club include Jerome Drummond, Francis, and Joy Cichewicz.

Jesse began the club because he wanted to provide an opportunity for musicians to get together to play music. The club meets every other Saturday morning from 10-11:30 AM at YDL-Michigan, in the Program Room.

When the club meets, according to Jesse, “We learn songs together. Some members bring songs in to teach the group. All genres are welcome. We teach each other all aspects of musicianship. Absolute beginners are welcome, as well as advanced players. I really love the wide range of folks in the group–from college students to retirees.”

Most people bring their own instruments, but there are a few guitars on hand for anyone who doesn’t have one.

“I believe every guitar player inherently has something unique about their playing. They just have to identify what makes them different and develop it.” –Jimmy Page
