The overdue fine forgiveness initiative that the YDL Board approved last month has gone into effect!

In addition to the stresses of the Covid crisis, we know the library closure has been a hardship for our patrons. For many Ypsilanti families, overdue fines are a real barrier to access. No overdue fines were charged while we were closed, but we wanted to do more. That’s why the Board voted in June to forgive most fines that had accrued before the closure—a total of over $287,000. If the book is returned, in most cases, your overdue fines have been waived! Fees for lost or damaged materials, fines for MeL items, and collection agency fees will remain.

We hope the clean slate on your card encourages you to continue to explore our collections, have fun, and learn with us throughout your life.
