What are whale eyes? It is not a technical term, and shouldn’t be mistaken for a lazy eye. It’s the term James Robinson uses to describe his own visual disability, and it is the title of his short film.
In this short film James explains what living with his disability is like. In the film he engages his family in an honest conversation. He includes some eyesight challenges that allows them to see how he sees. While the film explains what living with his specific disability is like, it also explores a deeper theme. He asks the viewer to consider how those living with a disability are perceived by society. “I don’t have a problem with the way I see,” James states, “My only problem is with the way that I’m seen.”
This insightful short film was recently featured in The New Times, and is one of many that James has made.
