Construction crews are making exciting progress on the building structure. Steel arrived on October 13, and in the following weeks, the building has taken shape in a visible way. On November 1, project partners gathered for a beam signing ceremony before the placement of the final beam. It was a festive occasion to mark a major construction milestone.
YDL has received the necessary permit to connect the sanitary sewer line to the County drain; our construction manager is in touch with the County’s Water Resources Commission to schedule that work. Other water work has been accomplished; the fire hydrant is installed and sleeves were placed for potential future installation of an underground sprinkler system. Finger drains have been installed under the parking area and book return driveway, helping to drain water off the site quickly after rain.
Next up, weather permitting, will be the stoning of the drives and lots, installing curbs and gutters, and putting down the base coat of asphalt. We hope this can be completed before the onset of winter. Exterior stud walls will be installed in the next month. The widening project for Harris Road is now slated for the Spring.
Fundraising work continues. The Next Chapter Capital Campaign is presenting an exciting matching challenge. Thanks to a generous local foundation, every dollar donated up to $100,000 will be matched. In response to community input, the library is actively seeking funding for a solar project. During roof construction, crews will install basic infrastructure for a future solar panel installation.
