Get help applying at the Library!

online employmentIf you are low-income and need assistance in paying your rent, consider applying for the Housing Choice Voucher program wait list. Generally, to be eligible, families must have income levels at or below the extremely low income limit set by HUD for county and family size. These limits vary; the limits for Washtenaw County can be found by clicking here.

The Housing Choice Voucher waiting list program will open March 15, 2022 at 9am and close March 22, 2022, at 3pm. Applications must be submitted online. If you need help, please stop by YDL-Michigan or YDL-Whittaker and ask for assistance at the adult reference desk. Library staff will be happy to walk you through the process.

To submit your application, click here. The application for Washtenaw County will become available on March 15.

Michigan State Housing Development Authority will use a lottery system to place applicants on the waiting list. Once the waiting list closes, all applications will be assigned a lottery number and randomly sorted. The first 2,000 applications selected as part of the random sort will be placed on the waiting list. After the random sort, applicants will receive an email telling them whether or not they were selected for the waiting list.

If you or a household member is disabled and requires a reasonable accommodation to apply for the MSHDA Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List, please call (517) 241-8986 for assistance with your application.
