In the last month, crews finished hanging drywall and are doing the drywall finishing work. Exterior brick work is nearly complete and doors and windows are being framed.  The exterior is looking more finished, as the parking area is graded for asphalt and curbs and sidewalks continue to be added. The Library’s Board of Trustees has approved the purchase of surveillance cameras, shelving, furniture, and wi-fi hotspots. We have received approval from DTE to connect a permanent power source and to proceed with the installation of a rooftop solar array.

In July, the asphalt base of the parking lot will be installed and the widening project on Harris Road will begin. The data cabling will be installed inside the building. Bird-friendly windows will be installed; the special glass will prevent bird strikes and will serve as an educational tool for library visitors. Once the exterior brickwork is complete, the remainder of the exterior finish will be installed.

The James L. and Faith Knight Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to YDL in support of the new Next Chapter Capital Campaign. The Campaign is in the final stretch! There’s just $203,371 left to meet our final $2 million goal. Help make the new library everything the community wants and needs by giving today at ypsilibrary.org/nextchapter.

If you have questions or feedback about the new library, please contact Library Director Lisa Hoenig at 734-879-1300 or lisa@ypsilibrary.org.
