In the last month, crews have made dramatic progress on the interior of the building. Drywall finishing is nearly complete and the bird-friendly windows are about halfway done. Walls are being painted and lights installed. The most dramatic addition to the exterior has been the installation of the solar panels on the south side of the building. The 46kW array will greatly reduce the electric bills at the library and will serve as an educational feature for visitors.
In the coming weeks, the ceiling grid will be installed, and painting and installation of light fixtures will continue. Outside, the final work on sidewalks will be completed and the clay liner for the retention pond installed. A project to widen Harris Road is expected to begin in September.
Mark your calendars & cross your fingers for beautiful fall weather! From 2-4pm on October 8, we invite the community to join the Book Brigade, making a human chain to move books and movies from the current small branch to the new library. Stay tuned for details on the building’s Grand Opening celebration, scheduled for November 14-19.
There is still time to contribute to the Next Chapter Capital Campaign. Consider sponsoring a tree for $1,000! With less than $200,000 left to meet our $2 million goal, you can help make the new library everything the community wants and needs by giving at any level today at ypsilibrary.org/nextchapter.
If you have questions or feedback about the new library, please contact Library Director Lisa Hoenig at 734-879-1300 or email@example.com
