A new garden is coming to the Superior branch, built with a grant from the Ann Arbor Farm and Garden Club. In this learning garden, we’ll hold fair-weather programs, learn together about horticulture, and taste the results of gardening efforts. This accessible space, with raised beds at three different heights, will host a variety of vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers that will be used in library programs throughout the growing season. The plants chosen for the garden will guide this year’s Garden-To-Table programs.

Seed Library round-up

The YDL Seed Library could use your help. If you have seeds left over from last year’s planting, we’d love to add them to the Seed Library. Whether you’ve saved them from your plants or you’ve purchased them, your donations help create a culture of sharing and abundance. The Seed Library accepts seeds from:

• non-hybrid fruits
• vegetables
• culinary herbs
• flowers

Place your seeds in envelopes with the contents written on the outside and drop them off at any YDL branch.

Additionally, YDL will once again participate in the One Seed, One State program. This year’s seed is Grand Rapids Lettuce, a frilly, non-bitter leaf lettuce that is easy to grow and may be eaten as baby lettuce just 28 days after planting. A limited number of seeds will be available in the Seed Library.
