In celebration of the 250th Anniversary of America’s founding, the Washtenaw County Historical Consortium (WCHC) has developed a new exhibit that introduces the five seminal documents from the nation’s history, and it’s on display for a limited time at YDL. The exhibit, made possible by an America250MI history grant, shares more information about the documents that shaped how the United States was built. The exhibit is on display in the Community Room at YDL-Whittaker through April 30.

The featured documents include:

  • The Declaration of Independence: Announcing the colonies’ separation from Great Britain.
  • The Federalist Papers: A series of essays written to persuade citizens to ratify the newly proposed Constitution.
  • The Bill of Rights: The first ten amendments to the Constitution, guaranteeing fundamental individual rights and freedoms.
  • The Northwest Ordinances: A series of laws by the Confederation Congress that created a government for the new territory, including provisions for admitting new states.
  • The U.S. Constitution: Establishing the framework of the federal government.

This exhibit will be on display at varying sites throughout Washtenaw County in 2026. For more information about dates and locations of this exhibit, visit the WCHC website.
