Environmental Literacy Kits now available at YDL

Little home niggles can turn into big, expensive problems. Thanks to a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the Ypsilanti District Library has created a series of Environmental Literacy Kits that can help you discover issues in your home environment before they get too big.

As part of the Library Services and Technology Act, YDL received $4,400 to purchase items for kits that patrons can use to test the air and water quality in  their home, as well as find ways they can save on energy costs.

“We’re all looking for ways to save money,” YDL Adult Services Librarian Paula Drummond said. “These kits can help you identify problems in your home  environment that need to be corrected, figure out ways to save on costs, and make sure your environment is safe.”

YDL’s Environmental Literacy kits contain things like a thermal imaging camera, air quality monitor, and even a dryer vent cleaner kit.

“We want these kits to help you learn more about your home environment,” Drummond said.

Each YDL branch has an Air Quality Kit, a Water Quality Kit, and an Energy Usage Kit available for checkout. Reserve one at ypsilibrary.org.
