In May 2015, 18 solar panels were installed at YDL-Michigan. An anonymous donor gifted these panels to six Ypsilanti nonprofits. Solar Ypsi coordinated the project, and the panels were installed by S.U.R. Energy. The rated output of the 18 solar panels is 4500 W, enough to power an average home.
Since YDL-Michigan is a historic building, YDL and Solar Ypsi worked with the city to place the panels where they would not interfere with the historic facade. The blending of historic preservation and modern technology is just one of the things that make our downtown library unique!
