About Fines & Charges
To encourage the prompt return of materials, the Library charges a per day overdue fine based on the type of material. On the day after an item is due back to the library, all materials will be considered overdue if they have not been renewed or returned. No fines will accrue on days that the Library is closed. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not exempt a cardholder from the responsibility for overdue fines. Unpaid balances of $25 or more will be sent for collection and an additional collection fee will be charged to your account.
Fines may be paid for in person at any YDL location, by cash, check, or with a Visa or MasterCard (except the bookmobile, which cannot accept cash). They may also be paid online with a Visa or MasterCard by visiting EnvisionWare eCommerces Services and logging in with your library card number and PIN. The minimum credit card payment is $3.
Overdue Fine Rates:
- DVD & Bluray: $1.00 per day, per item. Maximum fine $5.00 per DVD or Bluray.
- All other items: 10 cents per day, per item. Maximum fine $3.00 per item.
If an item is not returned by six weeks after its due date, the item will be considered lost, and the full retail price of the item plus a $2.00 processing fee will be charged to the account holder. Lost items that have been charged to an account may be returned up to six months past the due date. No replacement items will be accepted.
If a lost item is found after the item has been paid for, it may be returned up to six months of the original due date, at which time a refund check will be issued for the amount paid, less a $3.00 overdue fine.
If an interlibrary loan item obtained through the MeLCat system becomes lost, the owning library will determine the cost for this item. Once the cost of a lost MeLCat item has been charged to a library account, it may not be returned.
If an item becomes damaged, the full retail price of the item, plus a $2.00 processing fee will be charged to the account holder. No replacement items will be accepted.
