This is part of a series of updates about the new YDL library that will be constructed on North Harris Road in Superior Township. Find more information and updates about the project at ypsilibrary.org/newlibrary.

What are the latest developments?
  • You may have noticed some activity and changes at the construction site. On November 12, G2 Consulting Group cleared certain areas of brush in order to perform soil borings. Results will be available in late November, which our architect and engineering team will use to move forward with a site plan.
  • The Library, Washtenaw County Road Commission, and Superior Township Board are in conversation to determine cost responsibility for engineering and improvements to Harris Road. Superior Township is currently working to finalize a road improvement agreement with The Road Commission. The improvements will allow the Library to safely build a new driveway onto Harris Road.
  • The Library was awarded a $50,000 capital improvement grant from Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs. These funds will go towards the foundation, steel, and rough framing of the building.

 What’s next?

We are awaiting the results of the soil borings. Once those are completed, the Library’s design team will work to finalize a site plan. Groundbreaking is currently anticipated in Summer 2020.

How do I give input?

Online comments were accepted and feedback sessions were held in January. During this time, patrons reviewed the concept plans and offered comments. Our staff and architects are considering these comments and the revised plans will be posted when they are available.

If you have questions or feedback about the new library, please contact Library Director Lisa Hoenig at 734-879-1300 or [email protected].
