THIS MONTH’S BOOK

Love is a Revolution by Renee Watson

When Nala reluctantly agrees to attend an open mic night, she finds herself falling in instant love with Tye Brown, the MC. He’s perfect, except… Tye is an activist and is spending the summer putting on events for the community when Nala would rather watch movies and try out the new seasonal flavors at the local creamery. In order to impress Tye, Nala tells a few tiny lies to have enough in common with him.

As they spend more time together, sharing more of themselves, some of those lies get harder to keep up. As Nala falls deeper into keeping up her lies and into love, she’ll learn all the ways love is hard, and how self-love is revolutionary.

MAKE A TISSUE PAPER JAR

Whether you want a mood light in your room for inspiration or to use this as a self-affirmation jar to keep positive thoughts and keepsakes, here’s how to make your own.

MATERIALS

  • Glass jar
  • Glue/water mixture, 50/50 of each
  • Foam brush or old paint brush
  • Tissue paper scraps

Step 1: Apply a thin layer of glue/water mixture to the outside of the jar using the
brush.
Step 2: Apply tissue paper shapes onto
the jar and smooth them out with the
brush.
Step 3: Once the jar surface is filled with
tissue paper, brush another layer of glue/water mixture over the
top of the tissue paper to seal and strengthen it.

Get creative and add pictures or stickers to the jar before you start gluing on the tissue paper. Or use the tissue paper to create fun shapes/designs. Enjoy!
