In 2025, the Ypsi Seed Library distributed more than 7,500 free seed packets.
This year, we are excited to offer more than 200 unique varieties of fruit and vegetable seeds, cycled seasonally for both indoor starting and direct sowing. Our Library of Things is also expanding its gardening offerings just in time for planting season.
All YDL branches have seeds to take home. At YDL-Whittaker, you’ll also find seedlings, a year-round propagation station, and garden starting kits. We’ve taken your feedback to heart and added even more resources to help start your garden and keep it growing all season long—including free guides on native planting, pest control, and a brand new indoor seed-starting zine.
New offerings in the Library of Things will range from basics—such as a garden hoe, small shovel, soil block makers, and a root weeding tool for easy seed starting and maintenance—to specialty tools like a mushroom log inoculator and a broadfork cultivator and tiller. We’ve also made seed packets available on the Bookmobile!
Can’t make it to the library? Free Ypsi Seed Library resources will also be available at the YDL table at the Ypsi Farmers Market, making it even easier to get growing this season.
