We missed you at our Garden Gathering this week!

This week’s Garden Gathering was all about birds. If you couldn’t attend the event, you can still participate in all of the activities! Below you’ll find pictures and directions for the crafts, as well as a video of the read aloud.

Remember we have our Garden Gathering events every Friday from 11:00am to 12:00pm. We’ll post regularly about what’s happening in all the YDL gardens and when Garden Gatherings are cancelled due to rain, check back for supply kits you can use at home.

First hear Jodi read Ruby’s Birds, written by Mya Thompson, illustrated by Claudia Dávila, and published by WunderMill Publishing Group, Inc. Sing along to Little Bird, Little Bird, with new lyrics to match the birds you’ll see in the book.

Go on a walk to collect items outside and build a bird nest. See examples below and click the button for the full instructions.

You’ll also find a fun writing activity about birds and a bird themed scavenger hunt. Scroll down to the bottom of this page to download and print or use on your phone.

Photo of the bird nest supplies. There's two cups of clay, a paper plate, and a handful of sticks.

These are the materials you’ll find in your bird nest craft bag.

The bird feeder kits were supplied by our friends at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. If you missed picking one up, take a look at the photos to see the contents and then use popsicle sticks and glue to build your own!
