Last September, the Ypsilanti District Library issued a record 536 new library cards. Let’s keep the momentum going for National Library Card Sign-Up Month 2026!
Since 1987, the specially designated month of September has symbolized the effort to get library cards in as many hands as possible. The 2026 theme from the American Library Association is “A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes!” This year’s honorary chair is Laufey, the Icelandic-Chinese composer, singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who founded the Laufey Book Club in 2022, that helped foster a global community of readers.\
Anyone who signs up for a new YDL card this September will get a small prize and, more importantly, access to a myriad of library resources. Whether you want to focus with your headphones on in a study room; check out a karaoke machine, Fender guitar, or mini keyboard; or attend an author talk, Kinderconcert, or guitar club, a YDL card hits all the right notes. We even have a lounge and fireplaces where you can find your zen.
